After having read four books on my new Nikon D90 (yeah, I am that kind of guy, I read a lot), I wanted something to learn about my new SB-900 flash.
Although informative, it is flawed by two things:
1) Poor page layout. This book is the size of hard cover novel, however its layout is two columns which make reading it not enjoyable.
2) The book is to much like the flash’s owner manual. I didn’t get much out of it.
Honestly, I would have rated this book a two stars (omg!) if it were not for the last section which is use-case oriented. There, I finally learned how to apply this or that technique to produce a given lighting effect.
My recommendation? Read the owner’s manual that read “The Hot Shoe Diaries: Big Light from Small Flashes” by Joe McNally.
3 stars out of 5.
